Decisions, decisions

Day in and day out, we make thousands of decisions. From the seemingly inconsequential to potentially life-changing.  From something as simple as how long to brush our teeth to changing our job or even our career field altogether.

It's in those decisions - even the small ones - that shape the direction of our lives and who we become. Don't want to brush your teeth for long or completely? Allow that "one time" choice to become a habit and it will have a lasting impact on your health, finances, and quite likely your self-image and self-esteem.

Even the smallest decisions we make matter.

In following up on the last article (link), I think it's important for us all to realize or remember that it's the same way with Jesus. It doesn't matter if you're a "follower" of His or not. There will be times when we're faced with a decision to make and we just know that He's the One Who's giving us options. Odds are He isn't the One Who put us in that situation or is asking us to make a choice, but He's the One Who is presenting options to us.

I don't know what it will look like for you or what it will sound like inside your head or what the choices will be. Ultimately, that all depends on basically two things: the situation at hand and your relationship with Him - no matter how thin that connection may be. Let's be real - we all know when He's prompting us. If you have to ask, please, by all means do so. You may not hear His voice respond in confirmation, but He will answer in some way (, ).

Like we discussed in the last article, Jesus wants us to know Him more. Sure, the "big" things He does give us a great insight into Him and His power. I have two "buts" for that...

  • It's the "little things" done on a regular, consistent basis over time that really help us to develop trust in others.
  • What's "big" for you may be considered "small" to others.

  • "Big" is a relative term.

Stop comparing yourself to others. (That's a whole other teaching series in itself!) The choice you're faced with may seem small or inconsequential to others, but for you it's a big deal. It's a scary, oppressive, <insert the adjective of your choice here> thing. You may have even heard Him say, "trust Me," but you never have before. Maybe the consequences of doing so appear daunting or overwhelming. I won't presume to tell you what to do. It's your life and it's your choice - no matter the "size."

Here's what I can tell you: God is love (), God hasn't put a spirit of fear inside of you (), perfect love (God's love) casts out fear (). No matter the decision, no matter the "size," no matter what others may think, remember that God is for you - if He would give up His only Son to die for you, why wouldn't He help you in your day to day or once-in-a-lifetime decisions ()? You can cast your cares on Him because He cares for you ().
